The 1st council started on January 1, 1995. Jangseungpo city and Geoje county were combined, and on January 11 Geoje city council chairman and vice chairman were elected with 18 members. On February 9, the standing committee was formed and there were extra meeting for 5 times.

The 2nd council started by June 27, 1995 with the 1st national election for local government. It opened with 19 members on July 12. There were extra meetings for 21 times and regular meetings for 3 times.

The 3rd council started by June 4, 1998 with the 2nd national election for local government. It opened with 16 members. There were extra meetings for 27 times, and regular meetings for 7 times.

The 4th council started by June 13, 2002 with the 3rd national election for local government. It opened with 19 members on July 8. There were extra meetings for 26 times, and regular meetings for 8 times.

The 5th council started by May 31, 2006 with the 4th national election for local government. It opened with 13 members (District 11, propositional 2) on July 6. There were extra meetings for 26 times, and regular meetings for 8 times.

The 6th council started by June 2, 2010 with the 5th national election for local government. It opened with 15 members (District 13, propositional 2) on July 7. The term of office is from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2014.

The 7th council started by June 4, 2014 with the 6th national election for local government. It opened with 16 members (District 14, propositional 2) on July 7. The term of office is from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2018.

The 8th council started by June 13, 2018 with the 7th national election for local government. It opened with 16 members (District 14, propositional 2) on July 7. The term of office is from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2022.

The 9th council started by June 1, 2022 with the 8th national election for local government. It opened with 16 members (District 14, propositional 2) on July 1. The term of office is from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2026.
